A Brief Flower Guide

If you are planning a wedding chances are you have a Pinterest Board and have been looking at Wedding Blogs. As a florist I have a love/hate relationship with the images couples bring me from these sites. I love that an image so easily communicates an idea! One look at your images and I know exactly the style and ambiance that you're looking for on your wedding day. What I don't care for is that the images give a misleading idea of what flowers are available during what time of year. When vendors collaborate on a styled shoot it is often done months prior to when it is published on a wedding blog. Peonies, ranunculus, dahlias, & anemones are seasonal flowers that are not available during every month of the year. Sometimes a certain flower can be imported when out of season, but in my experience they are either not as pretty as they are when they are in season or very expensive, or both. I generally advise you to go with flowers that are in season.

Ranunculus and Anemones are springtime flowers that can sometimes be gotten as early as late January and are typically available until late April. They can be imported during other times of the year, at which time I’d place them in the luxury end of the pricing spectrum.

Peonies are late spring and early summer. They start as early as the latter part of April and can be found until early June. I also see them as imports during December and now, due to their popularity, late summer, but expect to pay more for them.

Dahlias are a late summer flower and can be seen starting late June and through later September. Can sometimes be had in October, but color choices are limited.

Pricing

Also keep in mind that styled shoots and oftentimes real weddings that are published have high or unlimited budgets. I understand it is difficult to know how much flowers cost and how to create your budget for wedding flowers. Here's a quick breakdown of popular flowers and some greenery form the top end of the price scale to some beautiful flowers that fit into any budget:

Luxury: Peonies, Garden Roses and Unusually colored Roses, Many varieties of Orchids, Colored Hydrangea (except light blue), Calla Lilies, Stephanotis, Tropical flowers such as Protea & Anthurium. I would also include Anemones, Ranunculus, and Sweet Peas when out of season

Premium: Standard roses, Spray Roses, Cymbidium Orchids, Dendrobium Orchids, Dahlias, White & light blue hydrangea, Ranunculus, Anemones, Dusty Miller, Exotic Foliage, Italian Pittosporum and Italian Ruscus

Standard: Sunflowers, Gerbera Daisy, Spider Mum, Delphinium, Larkspur, Eucalyptus, Stock, Lemon leaf, Israeli Ruscus

Economical: Alstromeria, Iris, Carnations, Accent Flowers such as Waxflower or Babies Breath, Leather fern

My goal is to work with within your desired price range to create wedding flowers that fit your style. Which is why I will ask how much you'd like to spend on wedding flowers prior to our consultation. A typical wedding with me will range $3500-$5500 (including set up fees & tax) depending on style and flower selection. Below is some average pricing per item to assist you in creating your own floral budget.

Bridal Floral Crown: $75 - $250 (average $100 - $150)

Fingertip Bouquet: $45 - $75 (average $50 - $65)

Corsage: $35 - $60 (average $40)

Flower Girl petals or mini bouquet: $50 - $85 (average $55 - $65 )

Flower Girl Floral Crown: $75 - $175 (average $85 - $115)

Flower Girl Pomander (Flower Ball): $100 - $125 (average $110)

Groom Boutonniere: $22 - $40 (average $22)

Boutonniere: $18 - $22 (average $18)

Ceremony

Ceremony Arrangement: $150 - $300 (average $200 - $225)

Arbor/Arch/Chuppah Decor: $175 - $3500 (average $700)

Pew Decoration: $40 - $75 (average $50)

Aisle Petals: $35 per foot minimum

Centerpiece

Low Single Centerpiece: $75 - $200 (average $85 - $100)

Low Multiple Centerpiece (3): $85 - $300 (average $135 - $175)

Tall Centerpiece (Stands/Vases): $175 - $800 (average $250)

Submerged Flower Centerpiece: $125 - $225: (average $175)

Sweetheart Table Arrangement: $175 - $300 (average $225)  

Other Decor

Cocktail Hour Minis: $40 - $55 (average $40)

Escort Card Table: $75 - $500 (average $150)

Cake Flowers/Topper: $60 - $300  

Delivery, Set Up, and Tear Down

Delivery varies depending on how much labor is involved. If we are doing set up and coming back for tear down it will be at the higher end. If we are just dropping off personals then we can work within your budget.
